Mother load

Wasn’t it Freud who blamed everything on mothers?
I couldn’t help but think of that this morning, when I saw an eager TV reporter grab the mother of Robert Hawkins, the shooter who opened fire yesterday in an Omaha shopping mall. (See the story “here”:http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071206/NEWS05/712060451.)
“Did you do everything you could to help him?’’ asked the reporter. “Did you try your best?”The mother could hardly speak. She said she’d tried, but apparently not hard enough.
What happened yesterday is heartbreaking.
Losing your son  and knowing he caused the death of eight other people  is unthinkable. I’m sure she’ll be asking herself forever if she could have done anything to stop him.
She didn’t need a reporter for that.
